FAQ'S
Could I use Silverist products even if I don't have gray or silver hair?
Silverist products are crafted for natural gray hair, focusing on the unique needs of silver strands. However, the products have been tested on all hair types and can absolutely be used even if you don't have natural gray hair.
If you share concerns like moisture, shine, smoothness, scalp care, or heat protection, Silverist formulas may work for you.
The Lustrous Rituals Buildable Tone Shampoo is the most suitable for gray, silver, and blonde stranded hair.
Are Silverist products safe to use on color-treated hair?
Yes, Silverist formulas are free of harsh ingredients and non-stripping to your hair. If you are dyeing your hair to cover grays, your hair is still gray underneath. Silverist formulas provide conditioning and nourishing to your hair and scalp while being gentle to any hair dyes present.
Why sulfate-free matters for your hair and what to expect?
Sulfates, such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), are commonly found not only in shampoos but also in dish soaps and household cleaners. These powerful surfactants are great for cutting through grease and grime, but on your hair, they can be overly harsh, stripping your scalp and hair of its natural oils.
Switching to sulfate-free products offers a gentler alternative that helps maintain your hair’s moisture and condition, especially for natural silver grays. If you're currently using a product with sulfates, you might notice a softer, less foamy lather that what you're used to. This is part of a more gentle cleansing process that does not strip your hair and scalp of natural oils it needs to be in its best condition.
If you feel your hair needs it, a second cleanse can help ensure all impurities are removed and allow your hair and scalp to better absorb nourishing ingredients. With the second wash, you may also notice a richer lather and that fresh, clean feeling—without the harsh effects of sulfates.
Why would I switch to a silicone-free product and what to expect?
Silicones, like Dimethicone, and Cyclopentasiloxane, are common in conditioners and shampoos, providing a smooth, silky feel that helps with detangling and adds shine. However, silicones are synthetic ingredients that coat the hair, acting like a plastic barrier. This layer blocks moisture and nutrients from penetrating the hair. Over time, they can create build-up on the hair that becomes especially noticeable on natural gray silvers.
Switching to silicone-free products allows your hair to absorb moisture and nutrients again, but if you are currently using a silicone-based product, it may take 5-7 washes for the silicone layer to fully wash away. During this time, your hair might feel drier or less silky, but that’s because you’re shedding the synthetic coating. As your hair adjusts, the natural hydration from clean ingredients will restore softness and shine without the buildup.
Are the products fragrance-free?
All Silverist formulas are free of artificial fragrance and contain natural fragrances only. Silverist's signature fragrance is designed to boost the mood and nourish the hair and scalp. The natural ingredients that give the product its scent are citrus, apple, green parsley, geranium rose, lily of the valley, rosemary, and sage clary.
Does Silverist test on animals?
No, all our products are cruelty-free.
Are these formulas alcohol free?
Stearyl and cetyl alcohols are non-drying fatty alcohols that are included in our formulas for their excellent moisturizing and conditioning benefits for the hair. They help to nourish and smooth the hair. Isopropyl alcohol does appear in our conditioner formula as a minor ingredient as it is part of a blended ingredient complex that includes the use of a small amount of isopropyl alcohol as a solvent.
Are the formulas gluten-free?
While we do not add gluten to our formulas, Silverist formulas are not certified gluten-free. We do not perform additional gluten-free testing. If you are concerned about a gluten reaction or allergy, we recommend you do a patch test prior to use and consult your physician.
Can you tell me about the bottle material?
